Baking

There is an aura that surrounds being able to bake – especially bread and particularly sourdough bread – whereby people regard you as some sort of alchemist.

In truth, baking bread is no more difficult than making a cup of coffee and doesn’t take much more time overall, although you have to set most breads aside to ‘prove’, but that doesn’t involve any of your time.

The major difference bewteen baking and regular cooking is – while you can use a more casual ‘chuck it in and hope for best’ approach for everyday dishes – you must adhere more rigidly to the amounts in the recipe when baking.
